About J.D.

Welcome Y’all,

I appreciate you choosing to take some of your time to visit my site! A little more about me, I’m a Texan born and raised and currently live in Houston. The city’s rich diversity, mixed with our state’s hospitality makes it the perfect place for me.

By day, I’m an English teacher. I believe every student deserves a high-quality education. Educating our children is an act of social justice. I have the opportunity to teach the works of famous authors and be inspired by my students every day. They are willing to share their experience on and off the page. I knew I wanted to share my thoughts and views with the world, even when I was their age. I realized I needed to live by example and work towards my own writing dream.

Additionally, I have the unique experience of being a member of the Houston Jewish community. The Jewish values of social justice, advocating for others, and repairing the world deeply impact my perspective, and as a result, my writing. While I’m working on my first novel, I hope to provide you with an engaging and unique perspective on both politics and spirituality given the current political climate in our country.

In my free time, I love to travel, both in the United States and abroad. I’m not picky. I’ve been to five different countries and hope to see many more. Growing up both Sicilian on my mother’s side, and wholeheartedly Texan on my father’s side, I developed a passion for cooking as a kid that never left. Cooking, like writing, makes me feel like I’m creating something I can share with others. I am a vegan and enjoy putting twists on my family’s traditional recipes, as well as taking in the plethora of dishes the global Jewish community brings into the kitchen.

Like most writers, I’m an avid reader. Although I do read some fiction, I mostly read non-fiction; particularly autobiographies, history, politics, and social justice.

Given the lack of reliability of articles today, I think it is important for writers to be transparent about their educational background and credibility to write on their topics. Since most of my post will focus on current events and/or spirituality, I believe it’s important to mention that I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a Masters in Pastoral Studies degree with a concentration in Pastoral Care and Counseling. Additionally, I completed a year of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem.

Thank you so much again for visiting my site! I look forward to all of the thoughts and discussions we have ahead!
